Cummings archaeology photographs, ca. 1850-1940 (bulk 1915-1930).

Summary: Photographs from Cummings' work at archaeological sites in Mexico, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah including Chichen Itza, Cuicuilco, and Cholula Puebla in Mexico and Kinishba and Canyon de Chelly in Arizona, mostly from 1915 to 1930. Highlights include images of the Silverbell Artifacts, Casa Grande ruins, Mesa Verde National Park, Elden Pueblo, Monument Valley, University Ruin, and Nitsie Canyon. There are images of Apache Indians including Crown dancers, Kinishba work crews, the Cedar Creek School Board, and a Fort Apache girls puberty ceremony; most individuals are indentified. There are also images of a Hopi flute ceremony and snake dance, and a group of Pima Indians at the Presbyterian Church at Sacaton. Other people in photographs include Clara Lee Fraps, Rosemary Drachman Taylor, Helen Campbell Land, Ralph Ellinwood, Emil Haury, and Chuck Abbott. A photograph of attendees of the 1931 Pecos Conference includes Neil Judd, A.V. Kidder, Arthur Woodward, Emil Haury, and Ruth Benedict. There are also images of the Wetherill Trading Post, Guevavi Mission, Tumacacori Mission before restoration, the Kinisba Museum at Fort Apache, and numerous natural bridges. One family album contains cartes-de-visite, tintypes and cabinet cards of unidentifed people from about 1850 to 1880. One photograph, about 1900, shows men using pickaxes to dig while women in flowered hats look on, titled "excavating near Willard City, Utah". Photographers include Esther Henderson, Chuck Abbott, and Sam Levitz.
